Soy foods like tofu and soy milk are rich in phytoestrogens, which can act in much the same ways that natural estrogen does. This is good news for menopausal women, who may find that an estrogen boost can relieve hot flashes and some of the other discomforts associated with this time of life.

2 tablespoons dried apricots (about 6)

½ cup soft silken tofu

1 cup light vanilla soy milk

1 cup frozen unsweetened chopped or sliced peaches

¾ cup peach sorbet

Pour boiling water over apricots, cover with plastic wrap, and let stand, covered, until apricots are tender. Drain. Combine the apricots, tofu, and soy milk in a blender. Add the peaches and sorbet. Blend until smooth.

Makes about 2½ cups; serves 2
